Alcatraz Overrun by Birds Draws Tourists and Cautions
Alcatraz Island, once a federal prison, now hosts over 2,000 breeding birds across seven species. Park officials and rangers report nesting season odors and guano, with visitors surprised by the wildlife spectacle and some getting splashed or swooped. The National Park Service protects the birds, aiming to educate tourists while planning cleaner pathways and nest removal next season.
