Beef Prices to Stay High, Group Warns
SPARKS NEVY AP High meat prices caused by rising production costs are here to stay, says W I Berry executive vice president of the American Hereford Association. He calls this a new era of food prices noting beer may stay expensive and beef supply issues persist due to feed costs and distribution problems. Berry predicts a cattle rush after the price freeze ends and says imports may rise as U S beef competes with foreign markets. The association, representing about 24 000 ranchers, notes Hereford cattle dominate the U S herd.
