Three people sustained injuries in a Sunday afternoon collision at the intersection of Thirty-fifth Street NE and C Avenue. Mrs. Robert Rush was hospitalized with a nose fracture after her car struck a tree. Mrs. Owen Allen suffered concussion and head lacerations. Mrs. William Taylor received a scalp laceration. Mr. Allen fled unharmed as the Rush vehicle traveled 75 feet past the impact.
Mt. Vernon high school principal Charles Swaney resigns after two years to join Cedar Rapids schools as fifth grade teacher and physical education lead at Hayes School. Swaney’s exit follows another district resignation, as Superintendent Melvin Sikkink leaves for Maquoketa and Harold Plank is named as successor.
Cadet Rapids police officer John H. McKee fined 100 dollars plus costs after pleading guilty to reckless driving at 11 15 p m on Saturday. A second motorist, Johnson, arrested Monday after his car left the road at 1012 Fifteenth Street SE and struck a tree, faces license suspension.

George Franklin Huffman 102 14th Street NE Cedar Rapids resident for 12 years and retired Iowa Steel and Iron Works employee died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 6:55 am Monday after a long illness. Born November 22 1881 in Monongahela Pennsylvania he married Evelyn Hellenschmidt on October 4 1926 in Waterloo. Surviving besides his wife is a daughter Donna Mae Huffman of Kankakee Illinois. Burial in Turner Chapel at a later time.
Suzanne Marie Berggren 13 day old daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifton Berggren died in Anchorage Alaska Friday after a day's illness Surviving are her parents grandparents Joseph Klima and Clifford Berggren Cedar Rapids and Mrs June Russell Anchorage Graveside services in St John's cemetery will be at 10 am Tuesday conducted by Rev Anthony W Chihak Friends may call at Brady mortuary
Funeral services for Dr. Oldrich W. Krejsa age 52 will be held at the Barta Hesser chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday conducted by Rev. Zdenek F. Pauk. Burial follows in Czech National cemetery with military rites by Hanford post of the American Legion. Friends may call at the chapel.
Services were held last week for W. W. Hoag 83 a former Cedar Rapids real estate man who died in Garden Grove Iowa Hoag moved from Cedar Rapids to Garden Grove in 1918 Survivors include a daughter Mrs Grace Stilman Cedar Rapids a son Harold Hoag Garden Grove and four grandchildren.
Adairsville Georgia hosts a massive manhunt as two federal prisoners escape with a guard and deputy U.S. marshal is killed. A large posse searches a 25 square mile wooded area west of Adairsville with bloodhounds and over 200 officers. Suspects Eugene Juelich and Woodard Larson fled after the marshal was shot five times and dragged from his car near Nashville.
All 24 airmen parachuted from a disabled C-119 over the Libyan desert are alive. Twenty one were found by Monday and the remaining three later by an air rescue party. The crash occurred 60 miles south of Wheelus Field. Survivors were flown to the Wheelus hospital. none were seriously injured.

A Cedar Rapids youth, 14 year old William Donohue, was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Iowa City Monday with food poisoning. He is in good condition, visiting relatives when stricken Sunday evening. His cousin George Parsons, 24, was also admitted and listed in good condition.
Akron man 25 named John Kocher pled guilty to larceny and embezzlement after admitting he forged checks to cover expenses for an old girlfriend. Judge Frank H Harvey paused the sentence when Kocher explained a $1.50 haircut prompted the fraud, noting the price sparked his crime but delaying probation until work and debts totaling $3,000 are addressed.
The Witwer Grocer Company obtained six more writs of replevin to gain possession of merchandise tied up in Cedar Rapids warehouses due to an AFL Teamsters strike. Last week the company secured nine similar writs. The petitions state warehouse employees refuse delivery or to permit possession, arguing goods cannot be delivered because of the strike.
Groh, 48, of 837 Fifth Avenue Sf SE, pleads innocent to dispensing ophthalmic cameos without a written prescription. He was arrested last Wednesday and released on a 500 dollar bond. Groh operates the Gregro Optical Company. Separately, Sherwin-Williams filed a 254.87 dollar judgment against Frank Streif in an account suit.

SAN DIEGO (UP) Leon Morrison, 37, of Chula Vista, fired nine times with a .38 revolver. The pearl handle broke off in his hand and nine bullets jammed in the barrel. Morrison took the gun to the Chula Vista police station and said he did not think he hit anything.
