Hog market forecast hinges on 1932 corn crop
DES MOINES AP Charles D Reed director of the Iowa weather and crop bureau predicts a noticeable decrease in hogs to be marketed this winter. If the 1932 corn crop is deficient early winter hogs will be light, but if corn is bountiful and hog prices low spring hogs will be fed to heavier weights and the fall of pigs farrowed will be offset. Reed notes a 625 percent drop in sows bred to farrow in spring 1932 due to poor hog and corn markets and drought, though the decline was tempered by these conditions.
