Cedar Rapids city subcommittee recommended an outright ban on fireworks and restricting sales to industrial zones within city limits. The 38-0 vote goes to the City Council for approval at 4 p.m. August 22 at City Hall.
Cedar Rapids approves a $604000 contract with Tricon General Construction for sidewalks ramps countertops and drinking fountains at Ushers Ferry Historic Village as part of a DOJ settlement to fix ADA violations. The village hosts 20 buildings on 10 acres at 5925 Seminole Valley Trail NE with work expected by Nov 30.
An open house today from noon to 1 30 p m at the Downtown Economic Alliance 501 First St SE discusses two way conversion projects in the Downtown District and Wellington Heights. Projects include Second Ave SE from May's Island to Eighth St and 2 Second Ave SE from 13th to 19th Sts and Fourth and Fifth Aves SE from Third to Fifth Sts with construction expected to begin Monday for the first pair and late August or early September for the latter.
