Rain drenches Cedar Rapids with heavy July to August downpour

In Cedar Rapids heavy rain pushed August totals toward normal levels with .87 inch at the airport and 1.87 inches downtown in 45 minutes. A 17 year old swam near the First Avenue bridge and, after a river rescue, faced city charges for swimming. Flooding caused a Bullsecks Bridge Villa fire after a transformer shorted. Traffic slowed on I 380 with a pond at G Avenue and First Street NW and outages reported in Cedar Rapids Solon and West Branch.
