Senate rejects cuts to El Salvador military aid in aid bill

The Senate voted 69 to 29 against cutting or limiting the 117 million dollars in Salvadoran military aid sought by the president for the next seven weeks. Earlier 62 to 37 rejected freezing foreign aid at current levels, which would have reduced Salvadoran military assistance to 25.5 million. House passage of a smaller bill leaves no Salvadoran military funds. The administration released photos alleging Soviet bloc support for guerrillas, while Gen. Paul Gorman urged continued aid for Salvadoran forces.
