Maytag Labor Fight Shapes Back-To-Work Effort

F A Woodrow of Newton testified at the Des Moines hearing that a dissenting workers group rented Hotel Maytag room 304 to serve as headquarters as rain drove meetings from the streets. He cited a letter by Maytag attorney E W Ford denying a 90 percent vote would bring a closed shop and recounted visits to vice president Umbrell’s apartment. The scene ended as union official Sentner arrived, inspected papers, and threatened action before the session broke up.
