Secretary Morgenthau announced that consular invoices will be required for all silver shipments into the United States exceeding 100 dollars in value. He noted exceptions for silver already in transit, silver imported for re export, and crude silver.
Washington AP government forecast for this year's cotton crop at 9,195,000 bales sent prices up to 14 cents a pound for the first time since 1930 and triggered talks among Farm Administration leaders. If borne out, this crop would be the smallest since 1896, barring only 1921, with the estimate 1,265,251 bales short of the Bank head cotton control quota of 10,460,251 bales.
Leonard G. Reid and J. R. Ayling piloting the Trail of the Caribou attempted a non stop eastward flight from Wasaga Beach Ontario toward Bagdad Iraq. The black biplane carried 600 gallons of fuel and a two man crew.

Heat wave spans the Midwest as Ottumwa Iowa reports a record 115 degrees. Lincoln Nebraska 106 and Des Moines 108 follow the sizzling pattern while Chicago wheat and corn soar on futures as drought worsens.
Rexford G. Tugwell, undersecretary of agriculture, urged Niagara County farmers to end what he called economic cannibalism. He said unearned profits from exploiting weakness harm society and that national measures are needed to boost farmers' cooperation and restore overall economic exchangeability.
Drought relief officials announce Iowa will commence a federal cattle purchase program with a 500 head daily quota starting Saturday in Lucas County. The plan, run by AAA FERA and related agencies, aims to remove surplus cattle from drought-stricken farms while preserving meat supply.

Ruth Helms Nagel obtained a Mexican divorce from former moving picture star Conrad Nagel on grounds of incompatibility. Attorney GL. J. McDonnell said Nagel was often away for business and the couple mutually agreed. They have an 11 year old daughter.
