Mrs. Dorothy Leola Metz died after a long illness. Born in Dubuque she lived in Cedar Rapids 32 years and married Edward J. Metz on March 27 1937. She leaves two daughters Judy Swartzendruber Amana Nancy Primrose Cedar Rapids a son David Metz Cedar Rapids a sister Marjorie Maxwell and her mother Leola Brown. Funeral 10 30 a m Thursday at Christ United Presbyterian church with burial at Cedar Memorial. Friends may call Turner Chapel West until 9 p m Wednesday and at the church 9 10 25 a m Thursday with memorial gifts requested to Christ United Presbyterian church or the American Cancer Society.
Anna M. Dowden 84 a former Cedar Rapids resident and Bishops Cafeteria employee moved to Long Beach California in 1943 and died there July 27 born April 25 1888 in Jackson County Surviving are daughter Eva Sommers Long Beach one granddaughter and three great grandchildren services were held in Long Beach July 31 with burial at Sunnyside Memorial Gardens Long Beach

Mrs T F McPartland 76 of 2047 Linn boulevard SE Cedar Rapids died Tuesday after a short illness. Born February 7 1896 in Stanwood she married Thomas Francis McPartland May 2 1916. Survived by two sons Dr Thomas McPartland Des Peres Missouri and Pat McPartland Cedar Rapids, Mary Jane Rickey and Mrs John Zachar Jr., Cedar Rapids, and 16 grandchildren. Work to improve Edgewood road NE from Forty second Street to Blairs Ferry Road will start Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. Linn supervisors authorized posting signs warning motorists enter at their own risk for about three to four weeks, weather permitting. County Engineer Bill Harrington said the signs will stay up during the project if conditions are reasonably dry.
Jacobsmeyer faced a grand jury indictment for setting fire to a building at 600 Avenue on April 6, 1970. He had previously had three indictments set aside before challenging a later information filing. Authorities tied him to Highway Equipment Co., the building’s occupant and his reported employer.
Linn county board of supervisors and Brookfield Pest Control approve a new contract for jail pest control. Exterminator weekly visits during June July August and monthly visits the rest of the year replace a 1948 agreement. Cost is 25 dollars per month plus 10 dollars per visit beyond once a month.
The airport commission awarded a $1,200 contract to T & K Roofing Co. of Ely for repairs to the terminal entrance canopy. The panel rejected paying a $50 membership fee for John Sandler’s airport executives group, saying one membership suffices. Don Hines noted no need for a second membership at this time.
Iowa Supreme Court denies Edward F. Jacobsmeyer request to dismiss an arson charge against the 54 year old Marion man. Prosecution will proceed as if no appeal was made. Jacobsmeyer had appealed District Judge Ansel Chapman’s overruling of a challenge to the charge.

The death of U.S. Deputy Marshal Dick McKinney is attributed to hemorrhage from an abdominal aorta injury caused by a gunshot. He was shot in an alley on July 20 and died after being taken to Mercy hospital. Three suspects have been arrested and the FBI is pursuing out-of-town leads.
