The Americanism committee of the YMB announces plans to bring two college and four high school students from Europe for the 1950 51 school year. Two Lions clubs and the state department fund part of the $1 610 needed plus additional gifts. Coe College Cornell University and Cedar Rapids public high schools will host the students with hospitality and scholarships provided by the colleges and local groups. The project aims to foster understanding between America and Europe and to give Cedar Rapids students first hand exposure to European youth.
The Cedar Rapids school board revised pay for 79 maintenance staff and three supervisors plus a chief engineer. Janitors mechanics and bus drivers receive a schedule based increase differing from teachers. boosts range from 60 to 216 dollars yearly. Donald Fisher 17 of near Blairstown remained in critical condition Tuesday at St Luke’s hospital Cedar Rapids from a diving accident Sunday. He fractured his neck and severed his spinal cord after diving from a ten foot bank into three feet of water three miles west of Marengo during a family picnic. He was transported to Cedar Rapids by Blairstown ambulance.

Magnus C Kehne 74 formerly of Cedar Rapids died at his home after a three month illness. Born June 27 1892 in Sioux City he worked as rug department manager at Killians Cedar Rapids later moved to Burlington and then South Bend. Survived by wife Mabel Leonard three sons Eugene Richard and Donald Kehne mother Mrs Etta Kehne Cedar Rapids two sisters and one brother all of Cedar Rapids. Burial at Cedar Memorial cemetery private service in South Bend.
Harold A. Lynberg 129 Ninth Street NW Cedar Rapids died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday after a long illness. Born March 22 1913 in Sioux City he married Mercedes Harris June 8 1936 in Sioux City. Survived by wife daughter Mercedes Louise Lynberg also in Cedar Rapids sister Gladys Switzer Sioux City brothers Donald Lynberg Portland Ore and George Lynberg Oregon. He was a Kenwood Methodist member. Burial Cedar Memorial cemetery Turner chapel arrangements pending. Friends may call at the chapel.

Joseph Erceg age 18 of 2220 Cc Street SW pleaded guilty in Linn County Court to attempting to procure perjured testimony from two men. He received six months in jail with four months suspended starting July 15. He had been serving a 30 day sentence for reckless driving and was arrested July 12. He admitted driving the stolen car during the trial.
Robert Harry Landry age 18 of 113 Tenth Street SE was sent to Lackland Air Base San Antonio Texas to enlist in the Air Force for four years according to Cedar Rapids recruiters. The same day Cedar Rapids sent 18 draft eligibles to Des Moines for physicals as the first group.
