Roomful of Blues Serenades Bluesmore on a Sunny Night
Cedar Rapids review cites Roomful of Blues as versatile and groove driven on Bluesmore’s 13th night. Mark DuFresne’s vocal range and expressive phrasing anchor a tight eight piece unit with a three horn section. Band navigates Chicago Kansas City and New Orleans styles with tasteful solos and strong rhythm.

Free Smoke Detectors For Fire Prone Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids fire officials will distribute 6000 free smoke detectors with 10 year lithium batteries to 150 to 200 homes in each of 12 Cedar Rapids School District areas. The program targets neighborhoods with 74 percent of city fires but only 47 percent of the population. Fire Department educator Greg Buelow says economically needy families are concentrated in these zones and Cedar Rapids schools will help sign up households with young children for the detectors. The effort aims to prevent child fire deaths.
