Nuclear weapons tests reshape wartime legacy in Nevada desert
After World War II the United States and allies pursued nuclear testing to gauge future war effects. Between 1946 and 1961 the U S exploded 203 weapons in the Pacific and Nevada while the Soviets British and French conducted many tests. A 1963 treaty halted all aboveground tests.
