Hearing in bid to overturn transit retaliation claim
Former Cedar Rapids transit deputy claims his job was cut for opposing discriminatory practices. The Iowa Civil Rights Commission found reason to believe retaliation occurred and a public hearing is set for Nov. 26 in Cedar Rapids. The case names Transit Director Bill Hoekstra and the Transit Department.

Police probe accidents of 2 patrol cars
Cedar Rapids police are investigating two weekend incidents involving city patrol cars to determine if department policy was violated. In the first crash officer John McDaniel struck a private vehicle injuring the other driver, Mindi Doerr. A second crash involved reserve officers Niles Freundt and Diane Burns after their car collided with another turning vehicle. both were treated in hospital and sirens were reportedly off.
