Iowa State Fair Parade to Open Aug 16 in Des Moines
The 15th Iowa State Fair Parade will start at 6 15 p.m. August 16 in downtown Des Moines. The 120 unit event, touted as the largest, preludes the 1978 Iowa State Fair running August 17 to 27. Grand marshal Toby Tolliver leads the Schaffner Players. Twenty bands join the parade with Schles wig as the honor band.

Rubber workers ratify Bandag Inc contract in Muscatine
United Rubber Workers Local 928 members, 200 hourly employees, ratified a new contract in Muscatine after a tentative agreement Friday night. Terms were not released. Workers will return to their jobs next Monday following a lockout from May 12 after the old contract expired March 1. Both sides filed NLRB complaints during the dispute.
