Washington AP reports anthracite production for the week ending July 30 rose to 1,048,000 tons from 706,000, a 48.4 percent jump. Nationwide bituminous output also increased to 4,610,000 tons from 4,400,000, though less sharply than Pennsylvania mines.

Eldridge B. King, an automobile salesman, joked I guess I'm being taken for a ride while leaving to demonstrate a car. His body was later found shot on a county road. his watch, wallet, and the car were missing as police hunted four suspects including two men and two women.
