Jobless Pay Split On Self Employment Iowa ruling
Iowa employment security commissioners split 2-1 over deducting earnings from self employment in unemployment benefits. William Walkup and Dennis Stanton won full benefits with no deduction for janitorial income, while Walkup’s $18 bus driving income was deductible. Commissioner Corbett opposed, calling the majority view a strained application and warning it could block outside remuneration deductions.
