Kenneth Cmiel Award Honors Human Rights Spirit in Iowa City
The Iowa City Human Rights Commission announces the Kenneth Cmiel Award to honor a college or graduate student active in human rights work. The 23rd annual Human Rights Awards Breakfast is set for 7:30 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Wayne Richie Ballroom, Iowa Memorial Union, where Cmiel’s award and five others will be presented. Nomination forms are due Sept. 1 and available at www.igov.org/human rights/hrawards.htm or by calling (319) 356-5022.

Cedar Rapids diver to perform Jump for the Cure
Cedar Rapids native Mike Dochterman a former Olympic diver and stuntman will plunge into a fiery stunt for the American Cancer Society. He performed stunts in Back Draft The Towering Inferno and was Don Johnsons double in Miami Vice. He is on a yearlong U S tour to raise funds and awareness after losing his wife to cancer.

Boat Collision On Coralville Lake Injures Two
Jean A Harmon 51 of Cedar Rapids was airlifted after a boating accident on Coralville Lake. Her husband Clayton Harmon 53 drove the fishing boat that collided with David L Soden 60 of Marion in near Sandy Beach Campground. Harmon was released from University Hospitals Iowa City July 29. No injuries to Soden or passengers in his boat.
