Debates On David Existence Roil Biblical History
Scholars challenge the Bible's David and Solomon narrative citing archaeology and chronology disputes. Israel Finkelstein argues David was a minor figure and Jerusalem a small settlement, while critics like Michael Coogan dispute the revised chronology and conclusions. The debate centers on whether a dynastic line truly traced to David and if monumental edifices linked to him exist.

Edom Findings Challenge Timeline Preceding David
Biblical Archaeology Review highlights radiocarbon dated fortress in Edom, with a copper mill and adjacent structure, supporting a David era chronology. Researchers Thomas Levy and Mohammad Najjar argue earlier digs missed the correct site, suggesting Edom had a state and kings before Israel and real ties to Jerusalem’s early status.
