Local Cedar Rapids Kid Builds Ancient Style Dulcimer
Ten year old Jamie Stout of Cedar Rapids crafts a plywood dulcimer inspired by a Grant Wood Elementary teacher Vernon Feuerhelm. Feuerhelm, who made his own dulcimer for a Revolutionary War project, notes the instrument’s simple fretless melody playing with drone strings and no neck. The RemBrand Co of Newton sells wood kits for about forty dollars with assembly in a week.
