Clutier Couple Die in Collision Near Belle Plaine

Mildred Kosnar 17 and Milo Konicek 20 of Clutier were killed when their sedan was hit by a truck on Highway 21 north of the Belle Plaine pumping station. Homer Kepler of Elberon, truck driver, faces intoxication and drunk driving charges. coroner's inquest set. The crash injured Roger Hober 17 and June Hushak 16. Konicek died in hospital at 2:30 a.m. and Kosnar died instantly.

Vinton Cuts Light Rates and Obituary Details

Vinton adopts a 25 percent reduction in municipal light rates with a top price of 5 cents per kilowatt for the first fifty kilowatts. Funeral services for John Arington of Columbus Junction were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist church, with burial at the Columbus City cemetery conducted by the Odd Fellows. Arington, a Rock Island railroad bridge carpenter, died after several weeks illness. He was born December 10, 1859 in Hannibal and married Clara Worley August 6, 1889. Survivors include his wife, three sons and two daughters, a brother, two sisters, and six grandchildren. three children had died earlier.

Funeral services for Philip Heiserman in Manchester

Funeral services set for Wednesday for Philip Heiserman 73 a fifty year resident of Manchester area who died at his home south of town. Born in Germany August 27 1862 he came to the United States thirty years ago. Heiserman is survived by his widow eight children and several brothers and sisters including Felix William Heiserman Carl Clarence Heiserman Mrs T Dominik Mrs W V Millam Mrs Louis Vifan and Mrs Fred Jones.

Cast Selected For Cedar County Pageant At Fair

Cedar county historical pageant On Wings of Time will stage next week at the Cedar county fair with more than 175 cast members. Miss Lorna D. Bates directs rehearsals. Waukon rejects $28,000 school bond issue

Waukon voters rejected a proposal to issue 28 000 in bonds for a new school building and equipment in a special election. Of 557 ballots 311 favored and 243 opposed with three spoiled. The measure failed to reach the 60 percent required.

Marengo 4-H Show and Jubilee Announces Schedule

The second annual Marengo jubilee and seventh annual 4-H county club show run Aug 20 to 22 with livestock setup at 10 a.m. Aug 20 and a 12:30 p.m. horse pulling contest. Gov Clyde Herring speaks at 2:30 p.m. Friday. L J Dickinson and a 4-H night appear. Saturday features pig and dairy heifer judging and baby beef auction.

Brooklyn Carnival Names Its Committees for Aug Fair

The Brooklyn Commercial club lists committee heads for the two night carnival in the town business district on Aug 12 and 13. C C Ecklund is general chairman with Rex Bramer on advertising and C W Fowler on rain insurance. Other panels cover prizes, dance, paddle wheel, bingo, drinks, ice cream, novelty stands, Ferris wheel and merry go round among many volunteers.

West Branch Homecoming Picnic Set for August 12

West Branch will host its eleventh community homecoming picnic on August 12 with Fred Albin as general chairman. Gov. Clyde L. Herring will speak at the evening Democratic hour, L. J. Dickinson at the afternoon Republican hour. A Cedar county Farm Bureau band array, the Cedar Rapids drum and bugle corps, and events from 9 a.m. include a grand entry, cavalry demonstrations, rough riding, balloon ascension and parachute drop, followed by picnics, vaudeville, softball games, another balloon ascent, and a rest room for attendees.

Lisbon teacher Marjorie Laub scher resigns for Fonda post

LISBON teacher and three year Lisbon school staffer Marjorie Laub scher, re elected for another year, resigned Tuesday to take a high school teaching job in Fonda. Also notes a string of local notices from Tipton, Toledo, Edgewood, Columbus Junction and other towns.

Ottumwa Armory Damaged by Fire

A fire at Ottumwa's armory coliseum caused about 75 000 in losses on the 1934 structure. The rear wing and stage dressing rooms were destroyed while two horses were saved. Fire officials cited spontaneous combustion in hay as the likely cause after four hours of effort by firemen and CCC workers. Insurance coverage on the building stood at 200 000.

Wheatland American Legion auxiliary met Monday evening electing Mrs Walter Klahn and Mrs C J Heckard as delegates to the Davenport department convention next week. Plan To Dedicate S. U. S. Fine Arts Group This Fall

Iowa City plan to dedicate the University of Iowa fine arts group in November. The project includes a fine arts building and university theater with landscaping to be completed by fall. The complex sits west of the Iowa river opposite the Iowa Union and may expand to include a music building auditorium amphitheater and modern studios.

Charles Reynolds of Monticello Dies at 47

Charles Reynolds 47 of Monticello died Tuesday morning at University hospital Iowa City after a several month illness. Survivors include wife and two children Viola and Bud. Body returned to Monticello where funeral arrangements will be announced. Reynolds worked as a buttermaker at the Monticello creamery.

Three Slot Machine Robbers Caught on Bridge

Three men named Pat Duggan Wesley Buck and C J Tracy were captured while attempting to cross the Missouri River bridge near Sioux City after allegedly robbing a cafe in Newcastle Nebraska. Deputy Jess Glover trailed them to the bridge and officers blocked both ends arresting them as they cast their guns into the river. They were taken to Dixon county jail in Ponca early Wednesday.
