Fire whirl observed in Carr fire rubble near Redding
In Shasta County wildfires, investigators found signs of a giant spinning vortex near Redding on July 26. Wind speeds exceeded 143 mph, suggesting an EF3-level fire tornado. Experts say such events are rare, may be strongest California has seen, and could influence future wildfire behavior amid intense heat and drought.
