Psychopaths show latent empathy when prompted study finds
In a Groningen Netherlands study 18 violent psychopaths watched actions then were asked to adopt others’ viewpoints. Empathy circuits activated after prompting while frontal lobe areas were less responsive during initial viewing. Researchers note empathy exists but can be dormant in psychopaths.
