Two Bicyclists Die In Cedar Rapids Crashes

Two bicyclists died from injuries in Cedar Rapids crashes. Phil Abodeely 60 of Las Vegas died Monday after a loss of control on 30th Street SE. Susan DeSotel 51 of Cedar Rapids died after her bike collided with a pickup on Thursday near Wilson Avenue Drive.

Fires surprisingly low in flooded area

Cedar Rapids firefighters have responded to about a dozen fires at flooded homes since 2008. Officials say several fires in a flood-damaged house at 304 K Ave. NW were intentionally set, with an investigation under way. Police patrols continue as neighbors worry about crime and arson risks in the Time Check area.

New abuse trial set after hung jury in Iowa City

A second degree sexual abuse trial is scheduled for Sept 20 for Andre D. White, 39, of an unknown address, after a Johnson County District Court jury failed to reach a verdict. Police say White held a knife to a woman’s neck on January 22 and threatened to kill her and her son if she screamed.
