Elementary fourth to sixth graders joined the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center at the University of Iowa for a July camp. From July 14 to 18 they learned core entrepreneurial skills, marketing, and profit potential and formed teams to develop business plans for future ventures.
The University of Iowa program at the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center fields ideas from students such as a snack stand and a T shirt shop. Celia Garner Prou ty from Robins, age 10, learned startup costs and marketing while Peter Doucette, 11, helped craft a computer game software plan with peers.
Karl Sigworth and Merideth Smith of West High earned the U S Army National Scholar Athlete Award. Andrew Charles Gray makes Mercersburg Academy honor roll and will attend the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Cadet Jennie Balmer, U S Military Academy graduate, won a New York Bar Association military affairs honor and will enter Fort Lee officer training this fall.
In the Cedar Rapids division several individuals and couples filed petitions. Listed debts range from about 20 000 to 165 500 with assets from under 2 000 to over 144 000 and exemptions varying up to 109 350. Cory Jay Valentine 24 of Moline Illinois Kevin James Link 49 of Iowa City and Peter Michael Mocco Jr 22 of Iowa City were charged with operating while intoxicated. The incidents occurred at Highway 6 and Iowa Avenue in one case 400 Emerald Street in Iowa City and Gilbert and Bowery streets in Iowa City.
Washington County Board of Supervisors will hold a first reading and public hearing on the proposed subdivision ordinance on August 12 at 7 p.m. in the county courthouse second floor courtroom. City High's defender Tiemeyer describes soccer as boosting self esteem and independence. She plays for City's varsity squad and Iowa Soccer Club, referees, and spent a year and a half with Kicks youth program while guiding children as a Rec Division play leader. She plans more play leadership and aims for college soccer and possibly physical therapy for children.
