Budget leader: Iowa economy may be slowing
The Gazette Des Moines reports July revenue rose 1 percent to 309.1 million, but the fiscal 1999 outlook falls to a 1 percent drop after an 85.6 million tax cut. Personal income withholding down 5.1 percent and sales tax down 5.1 percent signal possible softer consumer spending. Use tax up 9.8 percent and racing gaming receipts up 57.4 percent offset some declines.
