Soutter Fountain Returns to Redmond Park After 35 Years

Soutter Fountain moved from storage to Redmond Park along Third Avenue SE after a 35 year absence. Built by George Soutter in memory of his son Robert 17 who died after being struck by a streetcar in 1892, the fountain has a long Cedar Rapids history. Local support from Wellington Heights Neighborhood Association and city actions kept the project alive. The fountain was moved this spring amid delays and safety concerns but now rests publicly, with Water Department staff hoping it will stay protected and valued by residents.
