Higher Freight Charge Effect To Be Felt Soon
Cedar Rapids area residents and Iowa shoppers may notice higher freight costs as the Middlewest Motor Freight Bureau activated new rates for common carrier members in the Midwest. PETSKA says average increases of 3.5 percent for shipments under 5.01 pounds and two percent for those over 5,000 pounds apply, with truckload increases up to four cents per hundredweight. Manufacturers and wholesalers may pass costs to consumers as clothing furniture and hardware could rise though food remains largely unaffected.
