Corbett proposes smoke free Cedar Rapids casino reform plan

Iowa lawmakers weigh a plan by Corbett to expand casino rev share to 84 counties, end the state tax on free play, and impose a ten year moratorium on new licenses after a smoke free Cedar Rapids casino. The proposal would waive a 20 million license fee for Cedar Rapids investors and seeks broader gaming reform amid a Commission freeze on new licenses.

Regents review reveals gaps in admission index

The Gazette reports that the University of Iowa UI, Iowa State University ISU and the UNI use different methods to calculate the Regents Admissions Index RAI for students without class rank. UI excludes non ranked applicants from RAI while ISU and UNI estimate or adjust scores via a numeric calculator and holistic review. The board will evaluate RAI methods and admissions decisions to ensure consistency and transparency across campuses.
