Low river conditions trigger carp die-off in Cedar Rapids
Fisheries biologist Bob Middendorf of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources cites drought and heat as causes for a surge of dead carp carp suckers catfish and some bass along the Cedar River. The river’s shallowness below the 5in-1 Dam and high temps reduce oxygen while deeper water above the dam and areas below the REA Dam show fewer dead fish. Middendorf continues monitoring dissolved oxygen as deaths persist since mid June.
