Gregory Abbott grew up in New York City with a brother and mixed heritage parents. He studied piano as a child, sang in church, and listened to various singers from church choirs. After college he pursued advanced degrees in California while playing piano at clubs to support himself. He later taught and worked as a grammar school teacher before returning to New York as a researcher on Wall Street. Three years ago he left teaching to pursue music full time and achieved a No 1 hit with Shake You Down.
