Mrs. F. L. Hoffman of 915 G Avenue NW reports the death of B. Passet at Cattaraugus New York? He is the father of the Rev. David A. Passet previously of Cedar Rapids and now at Maiden Rock.
Eugene Schroeder, a farm hand, reported Van Dresseldorp, a resident moved from Pella to a Durant area farm, shot dead after a dispute. Officials say Dresseldorp, under medical care for heart trouble, acted berserk. his wife and son were away. Pickup found near a schoolhouse. Schroeder saw a photo of Dresseldorp in a Tipton window.
LOS ANGELES AP A municipal judge Friday dismissed a misdemeanor drunk driving charge against actress Gia Scala for insufficient evidence.

Council Bluffs police say Bernard Flock, 40, an Omaha refinery worker, admitted fatally beating Ida Kennedy, a 60 year old widow. Kennedy was found fully clothed in bed at her tar paper two room house after a fight outside and indoors. furniture broken and blood stains indicate a violent struggle. The house lies near railroad tracks in southwest Council Bluffs.
The Cedar Rapids Country Club 18 hole women’s team led after round three by 29 strokes over Indian Creek in the City inter-club event. Medalist Mrs Elliott A Cobb posted 86, with others at 87 and 88, totaling 261 for Friday. The three match score 845 tops Indian Creek 870, Ellis Park and Elmcrest close behind. The next inter-club match is set for August 23 with luncheon reservations via club chairmen or Norman Lee.

A 40 minute outage cut power to parts of downtown Cedar Rapids including the courthouse the county jail and the central fire station from 4 07 a.m. to about 4 50 a.m. Moisture in a underground feeder line bushing near C avenue and Sixth street NE caused the problem. Des Moines New Mexico AP reports the Gruemmer Indian Carbonic Ltd assets were sold in a court ordered auction to satisfy creditors. Henry G Gruemmer, 42, fled the sale as he prepares to begin a five year federal fraud sentence. Assets valued at 447100 were auctioned to settle claims from about 200 victims.
Fred Bonneau of Bristol Connecticut mailed a $2 postal money order to Miami traffic court for a Feb 15 1954 parking citation. He explained the money had been in an envelope all along but he never mailed it.
In Linn County district court on a Friday and Saturday, drunk driving fines reached 800. Bernard B. Wright, 21, of 3018 Adel Street SE, paid 300 and costs after pleading guilty to a first offense and had his license suspended 60 days. Earl A. Buttermore, 46, of Toddville, fined 500 and costs for a second offense with a six month license suspension. Wright’s arrest followed forcing Deputy Ackerman’s car onto the shoulder on Sixth Street Road SW. he paid 100 down and 50 monthly. Buttermore, arrested after driving into a yard and colliding with a fence and barn corner near Toddville, had 100 down and 50 monthly.
Abel Charbonnier a 31 year old rural postman from Chavagnac Lafayette flies to America on a radio program gesture delivering 1361000 letters to Abraham Spanel and returning to his 20 mile mail route in France. He notes American cities resemble French ones and Americans are charming but do not speak French.
A 26 year old Ely man, Ralph Wedenhaupt, received a suspended sentence in Linn County district court after pleading guilty to desertion and abandonment of minor children. He remains jailed while deputies hold him on a separate check charge in Hampton. Deputy Sheriff Harry Ackerman led the arrest.
Two civil actions were dismissed Saturday in district court. The Parker claim for property damage against Arthur Bezdek Jr. ended after a full settlement, and Delko Builders versus Howard G Hauskins and Mary M Hauskins for contract enforcement was dismissed.
Senate GOP Leader Knowland told President Eisenhower he hopes Congress passes an effective voting rights bill. The administration backs the effort and aims to send the House passed bill to conference. The minimal admin goal is restricting jury trial guarantees to voting rights cases. Senator Russell said no filibuster is planned after a Southern strategy meeting.
Cedar Rapids detectives investigated an attack on a 35 year old woman during an attempted robbery Friday night behind a beauty salon at Town and Country shopping center. Mickey Holland of 3127 Cave NE found a man in her car after 10 pm.
