Iowa 4-H Dairy Clubs Enroll 1879 Members in 86 Counties

A complete check shows 1,879 Iowa boys and girls in eighty six counties belong to dairy 4-H clubs this year. They own 2,643 dairy heifers, with Holsteins most popular at 986 members 1,414 heifers. Black Hawk County has the largest enrollment for the third year.

Stock Land Bank Sells Farms at Auction Near Columbus Junction

The Burlington Joint Stock Land Bank sold four farms totaling 620 acres near Columbus Junction. Farms include F. H. Johnston 191 acres sold to Hugh Pretz for 10.25 an acre, J. D. Hall 191.05 acres to G. C. Cotter for 20.50 an acre, farm improvements to P. F. Benson and B. H. Shearer for 1850 an acre, and Grant Kennedy 108 acres bought by Ted Lewis for 9 an acre. All farms occupied by tenants.

Poison Bran Stops Clinton Armyworms On Millet

A severe armyworm invasion on the Frank Traver farm millet field was checked by poison bran mash supplied by the state secretary of agriculture. A ditch was plowed around the 10 acre area before application, using eighty pounds bran fifteen pounds molasses and five pounds white arsenic per ten gallons of water. The crop was almost ready to head with parts damaged severely. Traver plans fall plowing to restore the field.

Holiday Association Cost Figures Announced

Des Moines AP reports Farmers' Holiday association released cost figures for farm commodities ahead of the August 15 event. Corn at 92 cents per bushel hogs 11.25 per 100 pounds beef 10.40 veal 13.30 lambs 12.67 wool 40 cents per pound chickens 24 cents per pound butter 62 cents per pound eggs 35 cents a dozen.
