Judge Bars 1996 Assault Evidence in Plettenberg Murder Trial
Johnson County District Court Judge Kristin Hibbs barred prosecutors from using testimony about Plettenberg’s 1996 beating of a homeless man to draw similarities to the Bailey murder case. Plettenberg, 31, faces a first degree murder charge with a willful injury underlying felony. Bailey, 44, was beaten to death and found behind Moore Business Farms in Iowa City.

Iowa City man dies in Monticello area crash
Robert Graf Jr. of Iowa City, 54, died when his southbound car crossed the center line on Highway 151 and struck a van driven by Patrick Casey of Vinton. Casey and three van occupants were hospitalized. two Casey relatives remained in serious condition. Graf taught remedial reading in Muscatine schools and was active in St Mary’s Church and local groups. A funeral Mass is planned Thursday at St Mary’s.

County Supervisors balk at Muslim Youth Camps plan near Stutsman area
During a Monday meeting the county supervisors signed off on a memo objecting to Zambrana Engineering Inc. study of a 106 acre site owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. The plan would host a camp for about 400 people and trigger as much as 2.5 million dollars in road upgrades on two miles of Scales Bend Road. Supervisors urge rejection and offer to help find a more suitable location.
