Hartwig clears 19 feet 4 inches at Drake Relays despite foul
Pole vaulter Jeff Hartwig jumped 19 feet 4 inches on his final attempt to set a Drake Relays invitational mark, but a judge ruled the vault a foul for touching the bar on the way down. Hartwig, world No. 2, blasted the distance before the ruling and vowed to chase an Olympic bid. He won the Drake title with a legal leap of 186% and emphasized his readiness for Sydney. The meet continues with Suzy Hamilton and Derrick Adkins among standouts.
