Withholding Tax Boosts Iowa Returns in Fiscal Year 1967
Iowa's withholding system in effect since January 1 1966 coincides with higher state income tax activity. Fiscal 1967 saw 996 037 returns processed up 115 801 with 69 545 more returns than 1966. Tax receipts reached 81 549 636 up 13 479 678. Laborers led in payments with 233 459 workers contributing 18 833 019. Farmers filed 138 543 returns producing 14 434 082. Public employers paid 9 197 031. Professionals filed 41 456 returns paying 8 001 267. Adjusted gross income rose to 5 691 514 942 and net taxable income to 4 440 972 553. Married couples filed joint returns paid 48 514 251. Single returns totaled 150 119. The Pirates visit the Cubs on Channel 9.
