Cedar Rapids saw a warm spell as temperatures rose to 80 degrees by 2:30 pm and then cooled overnight to the mid fifties. The forecast called for partly cloudy skies for Cedar Rapides with mild conditions continuing into Wednesday.
Carl Gorman a 57 year old transient received a 30 day floater sentence from Justice H R Churchill on a case involving intoxication authorities said. The brief order notes a suspension of sentence upon good behavior to be supervised locally.
The advisory warns protection measures for the next 24 to 36 hours with temperatures staying above 32 degrees in all directions.
Gerald Edleman of 631 Avenue NW was fined $10 and costs for speeding 40 mph. The fine was suspended on payment of costs and surrender of his driver's license for 20 days.
A general alarm sounded at Coryell Oil Company 1024 First Street SW for a morning fire at a gas pump. Later a still alarm reported a truck trash fire in the 500 block of M Street SW.

Mrs. Mary Petrik 40 died at home 1511 Second Street SW Chicago hospital at 10 a.m. Monday. C Rude 57 died at home 535 Vernon Drive SE at 3 a.m. Fred W Armstrong 80 of 2316 Fourth Avenue SE died Monday night. Mrs. A J Harris 82 of 260 Highland Drive NW died in a ny hospital at 8 45 a.m. Tuesday. Mile James Wolfe 47 at 1933 University hospital. Charles Hes 81 died at home 2006 Washington Avenue SE at 10 30 a.m. Tuesday.
M. T. Jeter, 39, of Des Moines, received a five year suspended prison term and a $1,000 fine plus costs for larceny from a building committed in daytime. His two female companions Mrs Jeter and Mrs Shirley Millsap drew one year each.
Judge H C Monday dismissed a petition filed by Fed and Mrs J W DeTarue and Mrs F H Woodward of Central City and ordered the plaintiffs to vacate Central City property. Defendants awarded judgment against the DeTar couple in the disputed real estate matter.
A court issued a temporary injunction in a lawsuit brought by Jens Jesper against the DeTars finding they defaulted on the contract terms. The ruling halts further actions pending a full hearing and outlines next steps for the parties.

Donna E. Edleman filed suit for divorce from Robert L. Edleman alleging cruel and inhuman treatment. The couple was married on September 3 in Towa.
Perry Rude a longtime auto dealer and business figure dies after a career that included managing a wholesale produce firm in Perry Iowa and later partnerships with Hearn Universal Investment and Universal Underwriters. He is survived by his wife Ruth Hayner, son David at Iowa, his mother and brother John Rude of Marshalltown. He held posts with Cedar Rapids Auto Dealers association Y Co A and other firms.
Los Angeles prosecutors presented figures showing at least four million dollars bet on fixed races tied to the Gambling Poison syndicate. Investigator Anthony Joyce summarized race sheets from Del Mar and Hollywood, detailing bets placed on horses destined to lose.

George Minor, 52, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at St Luke's hospital in Chicago following an arm injury on duty and related complications after amputation. Born July 23, 1888, he spent his career as a railroad engineer and hoped to pilot the Rocket train from Cedar Rapids to Burlington. He is survived by his wife Katherine Scheiber of Huntington Ind and his mother Mrs Minor of Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the B L E of 159.
Mrs A J Harris of 260 Highlands Drive NW died at 8 45 am Tuesday after a lingering illness in a local hospital. She was born December 24 1859 in Geneseo Illinois and married Samus Spurgeon in Newhall. Her daughter Mrs Alice G Cedar Rapids and sons Paul Gustaf and others survive. Funeral arrangements incomplete.
George Worth longtime Cedar Rapids merchant and former Iowa Falls immigrant died at his Los Angeles home on April 28 after a long illness. He came to Cedar Rapids in 1905 with his son Harry to run a wholesale lumber business and left the city over 16 years ago. He was married to Mary Hibner in Iowa Falls. she died December 26. Survived by daughter Mrs. Mark Lund of New York City. sons Harry Worth of Seattle and Leo F. Worth of Two Rivers. and five grandchildren Jack Lund, Mark Lund Jr., Joyce Lund, Janet Worth, and Rich Worth. He was a church member and will be laid to rest in the chapel. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
Edward Turkal aged 45 died at University hospital Iowa City at 1 21 p m after a long illness He was born near Solon in December 1895 and lived in the community all his life He married Lela Albright on December 5 1921 at Iowa City and she survives He leaves a son Louis E at home his mother Mrs Barbara Turkal is near Solon and he has three sisters Mrs E Johnson and Mrs Anna Fowler both of Iowa City and another sister surrounding Solon area.
A memorial notice states church services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. A La Ke in the Solon cemetery. Friends may call at Brosh Funeral Home in Solon.
Funeral services for Earl Stan are conducted by Maine lodge No. 643 I O O F of which he was a member. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel. Milo James Wolfe died at 1 a.m. Tuesday in University Hospital Iowa City after a lingering illness. Born February 4, 1894 in Linn Grove he is survived by wife Stella two sons Cleo and Melvin three daughters Louise Ida and Grace all at home a brother Everett Wolfe and Mrs Clyde Brand Cedar Rapids. Mrs Mary Petrik wife of Paul Petrik died at 9 p m Monday at 1511 Second Street SW after an illness. Born Cedar Valley in 1900 she lived most of her life here. Survived by husband two sons Robert and Paul Jr both of this city and Frank Tisi of Central City. Services Thursday time to be announced clergy at Kuba Funeral Home for visitation prior to services.
Jacquelyn Marie Tow 3 died at home after a long illness in Fairfax. She is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Tow and three sisters Beverly Jo Ann and Betty Lou. Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Omer Tow and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Petersen and great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Tow. Funeral services will be in Turner chapel at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The No Foreign War Committee, led by Verne Marshall of Cedar Rapids, announced its dissolution stating its purposes were served. Marshall urged that those opposed to foreign involvement may continue to associate to express views and warned of grave peril ahead with antiwar advocacy.

Charles H. Aussieker, longtime salesman for Witwer Brothers Grocer, died at his home on Tuesday at 10 30 am after a business. He was born November 9 in Fulton Illinois and lived in the community most of his life. Survived by wife Rose and son Richard C. of Ann Arbor Michigan. Funeral plans pending. Mrs W F Dvorak reports three tulip plants in her garden each bearing two blooms on a single stem. The flowers are just opening and show a deep purple color.
