School board approves early retirement plan amid cuts
The board plans to trim 16 to 27 teaching positions from the 10 million general fund. The early retirement plan, approved last night, takes effect July 1 and will be reviewed annually. Superintendent Lew Finch said reviews for administrators and technicians are ongoing. Administrators had sought to cut incentives for ages 60 to 64 and eliminate them for 65, but that language was removed. Ken Childress praised teachers as a factory worker, while Keith Westercamp abstained.
