Supreme Court Power Must Be Kept
Elmer Johnson, local attorney and former state representative, told Canopus club members at the Roosevelt hotel that there are many constitutional ignoramuses in Congress. He urged citizens to defend the Supreme Court as the final arbiter and warned against bills aimed at limiting lower courts or curtailing the Court’s review of constitutional issues. Johnson warned that removing appeal rights would nullify the Constitution and invite dictatorship.
