Monticello wins Drake Relays 3200 relay in bold small-school statement
Monticello led by Ahlrichs Meyers Manternach and Melchert won the 3200 relay at Drake Stadium in 7:51.46, defeating Linn-Mar and Ames as they proved small schools can compete with bigger programs. Melchert closed with a late surge while Ackok pressed Ames but fell short. The win sets Monticello up for a potential 2A team crown at next month’s meet.
