Elmcrest Fashion Show Opens Women Golf Season

Armstrongs at Elmcrest presented a luncheon and forum fashion show to open the women s golf season at Elmcrest Golf and Country Club. Mmes Arthur Schwarzentruber Harvey Lynch Ge F Puth W G Kruckenberg John J Locher Jr L W Woolfolk Frank Morris Howard I Bair and Miss Marilyn Reesink modeled in play clothes golf costumes street dresses and formal wear. Wide hats and Adele Simpson outfits accompanied Swiss embroidery and bright fabrics. Luncheon was coordinated by Mrs Harold Ferguson with several club members assisting.

Cedar Rapids Woman's club bowling league held its annual luncheon at the clubhouse. New officers elected were Mrs. D. G. Linder as president Mrs. John P. Galway as vice president Mrs. J. J. Brannan as treasurer Mrs. George J. Shultz as secretary and Mrs. C. Fred Larson as sergeant at arms.

The Martha circle of the King's Daughters met at Mrs. Lee Whitcomb's home on 1948 B avenue NE. Officers elected were Mrs. C. A. Kent president, Mrs. Whitcomb vice president, Mrs. A. B. Garbousova Stuns Cornell Recital With Rich Cello Voice

Raya Garbousova wide audience at the Cornell college music festival in Mt Vernon with a fiery cello recital. She delivered Vivaldi Concerto in D Major and Prokofieff Sonata in C Major with sparkling phrasing and tonal variety. Schubert Arpeggione moment fell short amid high drama, while Faure Papillon and Chopin Polonaise Brillante closed strongly. Accompanist Harold Eisberg earned praise for precise piano work as encores by Chopin and Sarasate followed. A second festival concert features Soprano Eileen Farrell, and the Oratorio Society will present Faure Requiem with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Rafael Kubelik.

Youngdahl Links Israel to Democracy in Fight Against Reds

Dr. Rueben K Youngdahl told a Temple Judah audience in Cedar Rapids that true democracy, exemplified by Israel, is the only force capable of defeating communism.
