State health officials said a batch of wedding punch poisoned guests in Ankeny due to accidental contamination at a food processor. Investigators believe sodium nitrite was substituted for citric acid during bulk mix, with 140 sickened and 63 seeking care. All have recovered. Names of the plant and caterer were not released.

A 25 year old man died in a two story house fire in Dana central Iowa. Greene County Sheriff’s Department says authorities were called Thursday night and firefighters found the home engulfed when they arrived. The victim’s name has not been released pending family notification. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. Dana lies about 30 miles west of Ames.
