Weekend crashes injure eight and hospitalize one
Eight people were injured in weekend traffic crashes with one adult admitted to Mercy hospital ICU. John H. Hoover, 60, of 408 Tenth Street SE, suffered a broken leg and clavicle after colliding with a mail truck driven by Richard Mills, 52, at 9:35 a.m. Saturday. A second three risk wreck on Sixth Street and Wilson Avenue SW involved James Pickens, 57, Cedar Falls, and three others including Richard Lorimer, 16, and Russell Fritz, 23. Declarations include faulty brakes and a red light violation. In another crash, John R. Ortega, 16, was charged with speeding after a two-vehicle collision on Forest Drive SE that injured him. Allen Williams, 38, was treated for injuries in a three-vehicle crash caused by a power outage and wet streets. A Hawatha family of four was injured in a two-car crash on Sixth Street and Fifteenth Avenue SW, with Roselle Emrich admitted for possible head injury, and her sons Devin and Clifton, 11 and 9, and father David Emrich, 33, treated and released.

Lake Search Ends in Foley Death
A lake search near Oelwein ended around noon Saturday as officials and Buchanan County Attorney declined to confirm whether any of Sheila Foley's clothing had been found. The probe followed the lake draining begun Friday after a December discovery near the east edge of the lake. Foley, 16, was found dead in a roadside ditch near Oelwein last December. Gary Frazer of Oelwein faces a first degree murder trial in Allamakee County District Court in Waukon.

New Jersey man sentenced in Cedar Rapids for stolen vehicle

Driver Assaulted At Stoplight On Sixth Street
Marvin A Waterfield reports he was assaulted at a stoplight on Sixth Street and Sixteenth Avenue SW at 10 10 p m Saturday. A man from a white 1964 car pulled him from his vehicle, kicked him in the face and back after asking about Freddy McCloud. District Court actions dismiss several drunk driving charges
The First avenue division of Iowa district court recently dismissed four drunk driving charges. Dennis Boyer of 2622 Second avenue SE was fined 300 dollars plus costs for a February 21 guilty plea. Other dismissals include Ronald Fritz, Anya Vanous, Clifford Klouda, and Jerry Greenland for charges filed between February and April. Linda Frederikson received a 20 dollar fine for assault and battery on April 11 after pleading guilty. A possession of a controlled substance charge against Charles Northcutt was dismissed.

Man Faces Heroin Count In Linn County Arrest
David L. Collins, 25, of 1323 Twentieth Avenue SW, was arrested on a warrant charging possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and giving authorities a false name. Cedar Rapids Man Robbed Twice by Two Youths

Three Iowa youths receive suspended sentences for mail box destruction
