Dave Chapman aged 68 of Oelwein died Tuesday morning when his pickup stalled at a stop light. He was found slumped over the steering wheel. He is survived by his wife and two sons. his body was taken to Hintz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

A Cedar Rapids youth and an Elmhurst Illinois youth were arraigned in Beloit Wisconsin municipal court on four counts of larceny and four counts of damaging property. Jack Koffron and Anthony Wilcox pled no contest and a pre sentence investigation was ordered with May 4 hearing. They were Beloit college freshmen and former student respectively, held in Rock County jail after arrests in Janesville following pay telephone burglaries. Deputies reported a stolen telephone and 108.85 dollars in coins found in their possession.

Driver Killed as Boom Cuts Top of Car on City Street
An 18 foot boom swinging from a moving truck severed the top of a car and killed driver Charles Wayne Stone 23 of Davenport during rush hour on a crowded Davenport street. Stone’s car crashed into a second vehicle driven by Harry L. Boyer 39 of Le Claire injuring him. The boom mounted on a truck driven by Vernon G. Schrivner 39 of Martin City Missouri whipped across the street after a hydraulic line broke. The boom hit a utility pole then Stone’s car, killing him instantly. The blow grazed a third car’s windshield with no injuries to its passengers.
