Sabath Charges Packers Caused Meat Shortage
Rep. Sabath accuses large meat packing firms of deliberately creating a meat shortage and seeks a House Banking and Currency Committee investigation. He plans to introduce a resolution calling for an inquiry by the committee, with referral to the House Rules. He cites public-record figures to argue a packer-led stall and cites an aim to discredit the Office of Price Administration and government food programs.

Corn Drying Temperatures Studied At University Of Nebraska
Agricultural engineers at the University of Nebraska report preliminary findings on high moisture corn dried at 200 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Samples showed no market grade changes in some tests but shelling revealed shriveled germ ends and heat damage at higher temperatures. Feeding tests with rats showed reduced growth in some groups, prompting further study before determining feed value effects.
