Kalona Twins Celebrate 90th Birthday Spectacle
Marion L. Yoder and Mary Yoder Miller marked their 90th birthday with a large gathering at Mid-Prairie Elementary School Kalona drawing over 500 guests from as far as Oregon. The pair, lifelong Mennonites, are noted for active lives with Marion still driving to Wellman for church and Mary tending a large garden. The event featured family members including 16 grandchildren for Marion and six for Mary. Marion claims to be the oldest. Mary disputes the label but smiles at the tease.

Freeing of Des Moines kidnapping suspect ends brief jail stay
Timmy Dean Scovel, 40, of Cumming, is released from Polk County Jail after friends and relatives post a 70 000 bond. He and his father, Lawrence Scovel, were linked to the abduction of 17 year old Chip Wittern, who was later released unharmed after a 38 hour ordeal. Rickie Ronald Michael remains jailed on a 250 000 bond. Police and FBI arrested the trio shortly after the capture.

Five motorists arrested for drunk driving in Linn County
Five people were charged with drunken driving in Linn County late Saturday and early Sunday. Keith Chesmore 47 of 1826 Second Ave SE was injured in a crash at Nineteenth Street and Third Avenue SE and hospitalized after treatment. The other arrestees were Jeffrey Brown 18 Leland Morris 33 Steven Martin 24 Russell Holbrook 18 and Jeffrey Armbrecht 21.
