Iowa Legislature Fails to Pass Parimutuel Betting or Tax Increases
Des Moines Iowa lawmakers wrapped up the 1982 session without approving parimutuel betting proposals or several tax and fee hikes. Highlights include a vetoed telecom tax plan, a $10 annual park fee idea, tobacco tax increases, local tax proposals, abortion-related measures, and attempts to curb pay raises for state workers. Conservatives, the Dirty 30, secured limited wins but overall failed to advance major conservative or tax-cut agendas.
