Linn County settles sex harassment suit in Cedar Rapids
Linn County approved a settlement Wednesday in a lawsuit by Bonnie Waller, a former legal assistant. The suit, filed against the county and prosecutors Monica Slaughter and Nick Maybanks, alleged sexual harassment and retaliation. Details were not public until the judge dismissed the case. Waller, who started in 2021 and was fired in 2023, alleged Slaughter ogled and touched her, and Maybanks failed to address the harassment. The county disputed wrongdoing but said settlement was best for taxpayers to avoid prolonged litigation. Maybanks deferred further comment to county communications.
