SIDS study links breastfeeding and smoke protection to lower risk
Government researchers report that new mothers who do not breastfeed and those who smoke after birth raise SIDS risk. A Louisiana study of 117 deaths (1997–98) found 55 percent could have been prevented by breastfeeding and 27 percent by avoiding postnatal smoking. The sleeping position link was not statistically significant.
