Tests Show How To Get Most Beef From Least Corn
University of Illinois experiments on two year old feeder cattle show optimal beef yield with minimal corn. Keep cattle on pasture until two years, finish good feeders with full corn feed, and use legume hay to avoid protein supplements. Results indicate profitable spreads between feeder and finished cattle and higher edible meat yield per corn used.

Sod Waterways Recommended by Conservationist
Lafayette Ind Gullies may be converted to sod waterways with light work. Extension soil conservationist R O Cole of Purdue University advises shaping banks to gentle slopes, filling gullies, then creating a dish shaped shallow area seeded with sod. Widths should handle runoff and allow mowing, with manure, fertilizer, and lime added for fertility.

Eradicate Moles Requires Skill and Patience
Gardeners learn from Iowa State extension entomologist Harold Gunderson that moles, though beneficial for eating insects, can wreck lawns with extensive tunneling. Traps use rolled runways to locate main tunnels, with quick reset if first bait fails. gas and dust methods, scooping out live moles, moth balls, and lead arsenate offer controls though effectiveness varies and poisons are rarely reliable.
